SAMUEL’S PRIORITIES

Samuel Vilchez Santiago is running to put people over politics and expand opportunity for the community that raised him. His priorities are shaped by lived experience, growing up right here, seeing what works, and fighting to make sure every family has a real chance to get ahead. Here’s what he’s fighting for:

Man in a suit holding a microphone speaking to an audience inside a store or cafeteria with signs that read 'Order Here,' 'Kiosk Self Service,' and 'Order Pick Up'.
  • Housing, health care, and insurance costs are spiraling out of control. Samuel will work to:

    • Expand Medicaid and lower prescription drug prices

    • Protect seniors on fixed incomes by increasing their homestead exemption

    • Reduce or eliminate toll costs for Florida residents

    • Lower insurance costs by holding insurers accountable and expanding My Safe Florida Home grants

    • Fully fund housing affordability programs and restore local control to cities and counties

Two people at a gun control advocacy event holding signs with messages in Spanish and English. The woman on the left holds a sign that reads, 'Las leyes de armas salvan vidas,' and the man on the right holds a sign that reads, 'Gun laws save lives.' Both are smiling, and the man has a campaign button on his jacket saying, 'Courage gun violence.'
  • Samuel is a proud graduate of Title I schools in our district. Samuel will work to:

    • Fully fund public education

    • Pay teachers fairly and support them in the classroom

    • Expand access to dual enrollment, career and technical programs

    • Improve oversight of voucher programs

    • Stop the politicization of our public colleges and universities

Group of young adults at a rally holding signs and a Venezuelan flag, advocating for immigrant communities and children protection.
  • East Orlando is home to vibrant immigrant communities who deserve safety, dignity and opportunity, not fear. Samuel will work to:

    • Block state cooperation with mass deportation efforts

    • Restore in-state tuition for Dreamers and TPS holders

    • Expand access to professional licenses

    • Recognize immigrants as essential to Florida’s economy

    • Repeal anti-immigrant laws like SB1718 and the TRUMP Act

A group of six people standing in front of a yellow bus with signs advocating for stopping gun violence and promoting democracy. A man is speaking at a podium with a sign that says 'STOP PROJECT 2025.' The bus has a large electronic screen and a banner that reads 'TOUR TO SAVE DEMOCRACY'.
  • After escaping authoritarianism as a child and later organizing campaigns across Florida to defend voting rights, Samuel will work to:

    • Expand early voting and vote-by-mail access

    • Fight voter suppression and election subversion

    • Protect local election administrators from partisan attacks

    • Oppose illegal, partisan gerrymandering

    • Protect home rule
